I am Alex Corrie, a 30-year-old photographer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

I began practicing photography in 2014, the summer after I graduated high school. It felt appropriate to find a creative outlet for my own good, to have some sort of skill going into college. It was a tough but simpler time. The goal was not to start a business or stunt on social media.

My parents enjoy the process of taking photos, printing them out, hanging them up. It seemed easy enough to start, so I took a quick trip down to the city to snap photos with my iPhone camera. The photos were decent and sharing them with my family felt rewarding, but mostly I was surprised at how much fun it was to go out with the sole intention of taking good photos. I dug my dad’s Pentax camera out of the closet and that was that. I had found something.

That initial feeling of “discovering a path” has stuck with me throughout the years and I try to return to it every time I head out with a camera. I don’t take for granted photography’s ability to enrich our lives. It has lead me to meet people and explore places that old me couldn’t imagine. Photography practice unlocks my vision and it makes me more empathetic to other creators. I plan to continue the process of learning, teaching, and evolving with the craft forever.

Nowadays I live and work out of a travel trailer near Seattle with Kalyn and our two cats Mushu and Freyja. I am open to work in the PNW and also willing to travel back to Pittsburgh periodically for special opportunities.
